Sunday June 12, 2005 We got up early with the intention of hiking around Deerfield Lake, but as we neared the lake the rain began again. We waited for an ˝ hour in the trailhead parking lot, but the rain became more intense rather than subsiding so we made a decision to continue on west. Our destination for this evening was the Bighorn Mountains. One of the things that we do to pass time on the drive between Sundance and Sheridan, WY is to count how many Pronghorns we can see. We’ve typically seen numerous Pronghorns along this stretch and today was no exception. We counted 357 Pronghorns. Wow!

Around 3:30pm we headed into the Bighorn Mountains via highway 14 in the rain and fog. There wasn’t much to see as the bad weather obscured our vision. We stopped at the Burgess Jct. Visitor center for awhile and enjoyed the displays. While we were inside the heavy rain had turned into a sprinkle and we decided to walk along a short nature trail that is just outside the visitors center. I fruitlessly tried to track down a Bluebird to get a picture. There were numerous Marmots on the trail and we took lots of pictures and we watched them for about an hour.
