As we wait at Riverside, someone says Rocket is in eruption and my husband and son take off with cameras to see what they can. They return with a report that Grotto Fountain has erupted. Within a few minutes, Riverside also erupts. Because of the clouds and steam from the cold weather, the eruption is not as pretty as usual, but still exciting. As we start back toward the Visitor Center, we debate on whether to wait on Daisy, but decide against it this day. Since we hope to return in August, we know we will likely have better weather for a leisurely stroll in the basin.
The wind seems to have picked up and it is colder as we walk back. We are glad to get to the lower store and have a late lunch. We stop after lunch to watch Old Faithful erupt and then head back to the cabin. While we are in the cabin, there is a brief rain shower, which renews the puddles. Since we want to have plenty of time to spend at Canyon and Hayden Valley tomorrow, we decide to do our gift shopping this evening. We make our selections for friends, neighbors, and co-workers, but do not buy! Instead we walk over to the lodge for a cappuccino and another eruption of Old Faithful. This time the sun is shining and I take some pictures. Following the eruption, we make our purchases. Back at the cabin, I pack away the gifts for safe travel home. Today we have seen Oblong, Beehive, Grand, Atomizer, Rocket, Grotto Fountain, Riverside, and Old Faithful (three times).
