Bombshell is the name bestowed on this neat feature by G.L. Henderson. Those of you at YNP Historian Lee Whittlesey’s presentation on Memorial Day will recognize the name of GL Henderson. Henderson, trying to compete with the hotel/stage companies, offered his visitors a tour through Glen Africa as an added “bonus” beyond the usual tour. Henderson produced newspaper style guides, but the newsprint is so fragile very few have survived. Ages ago I transcribed Henderson’s newspaper guides so I feel like he is an old friend too. I am seeing something I have read about for years!!
Henderson described the Bombshell as resembling an “exploded shell, with ragged edges like huge saw teeth”. Another early description likened it to an ear. We agreed on both accounts; it looks the same today. Simply Awesome.
