Saturday was a great day. Got up bright and early and was on my way in to the Park by 5:20 or so. Had an interesting encounter with an Elk and her calf who appeared to be just hours old. Momma Elk was on one side of the road and the baby seemed scared to cross once she saw me. I turned off my headlights and turned off the car in an attempt to make it less stressful for the baby but didn't work. Momma elk disappeared into the woods and the calf remained by the side of the road all by herself. I drove away hoping all would work itself out. So, got to the lake area around 6ish and just was driving around checking out the beautiful morning. Around Mary Bay I pulled into a pullout as I saw a truck stopped and folks looking up the hill with binoculars. Lo and behold it was Shannon and her husband and they had spotted a Grizz with 2 cubs making their way slowly down. Awesome sight to see!! Shortly later Helene & Rene showed up and got to meet them. Shortly after that Dan & Steve showed up. I thought it ironic at the time that here I am so far from home and at around 6:30 in the morning I knew in a sense everyone around me. Later in the day met a big group of Loons at Old Faithful and spent most of the morning and early afternoon there. Rest of the day took it slow and cruised around checking out the sights. Eventually made my way to West Yellowstone where I would be spending the next few nights.
