First Meadow is so different from when I was last here in June of 2002, when the meadow was truly mostly slough. Today, in September, itís safe to navigate all around the meadow from Slough Creek. Ė which is wide and four or six feet deep and clear and, according to the angler we chat with, full of huge cutthroats that arenít hungry Ė to the ranger cabins. Itís luscious out there. By way of wildlife, a couple of sleepy bison bulls, and several (probable) Garter snakes, one of which escaped being stepped on by slithering over Kevinís boot. We see a pack train on the way to Silver Tip Ranch across the Park border.
