Drove up to Nez Perce Ford again and found the same griz and cub on the carcass. Others there said we'd just missed seeing a wolf pacing on the banks above the carcass. It didn't get a bite because of the grizzlies on the carcass and had left. It was rainy, so we changed our plans of doing a longer hike and instead walked around Terrace Spring and then did the one mile round trip to Harlequin Lake. We did not see any beavers on the lake, but on our hike there my two friends saw something ahead on the trail which they did not believe was another hiker. I got my bear spray out of its holster but soon saw hoof prints on the trail. Then we saw off to our left, peaking above the young pine trees, the head and rump of a collared, female elk peering at us. On our drive toward West Yellowstone we saw an eagle and about four trumpeter swans on the Madison River. We thought the gas price of $2.679 at West Yellowstone was terrible but later saw it was $2.849 in the park. Stopped at Fishing Bridge Visitor Center for short time on way back. Believe it got up to 51 degrees today. Played Hand & Foot Canasta again tonight.
