We headed to Nez Perce Ford/Picnic Area, where we'd heard there was a bison carcass across the Yellowstone River on which grizzlies were feeding. At first when we got there, a sow and 2-year-old cub were sleeping at tree line, but in about 20 minutes they came down and resumed their feeding. Word was that at 6 a.m. there had been six grizzlies there. After lunch we drove to West Thumb, where we intended to do the short trail to the lake overlook. However, the trail was closed. We assumed it was because of bear activity, but the Yellowstone Assn. clerk told us that a thermal feature had opened up on the trail. So we just walked around West Thumb. I later visited at Lake Lodge, sitting in the new chairs on the front porch and taking in the beautiful view of the lake. Supper that night was pizza at the pub.
