Hiked back to the car Sunday, just two sleeping black bears at Floating Island lake, on our way though Mammoth 3 female elk and a young one were right across from the cafeteria. A quick tour through Porcelain Basin and we went on to our reserved site at Canyon campground. Then it was time for our first Hayden Valley wildlife drive, which was quite busy – first bison, then a beaver 4 feet from the road, then 2 male elk next to the road (with a bison behind that a touron didn't see and walked right next to), then many more bison and 2 very distant grizzlies. The next morning we were up super early to hike the Mary Mountain trail but it was so foggy we decided hiking in grizzly territory wasn’t the best idea. So off to the Upper Geyser Basin, there by 7 am, Old Faithful went at 7:59 – we saw it with only a handful of other people. We ended up spending the whole day geyser watching, catching ALL the predicted ones – Daisy, Grand, Castle, Riverside, and Great Fountain. I got some great mountain bluebird and tree swallow photos. The next morning we did the Canyon area overlooks before heading out through the Tetons. Needless to say it was a great trip!
