Crater Hills grew closer and closer. Our packs were light with little or no liquid left, so we didn’t stop for the last several miles, arriving back at our 2nd car dropped near Crater Hills that morning. Time out on the trail was exactly 12 hours, almost to the minute.

The temps were dropping and the winged assassins were so vicious and numerous we didn’t dally. We shuttled to the other vehicle, packed up and relocated to a drier climate at the Esplanade overlooking Fort Yellowstone for the tailgate dinner to conclude our “Opus Two” exploration.

I confess to taking something out of Yellowstone that Saturday night, I hope it’s not illegal! There were still mosquitoes flying around in my car on Sunday morning when I headed back in for my next Yellowstone adventure. Good hike, Ballpark, thanks.
