We left Mt. Washburn heading for Lamar Valley. Along the way we spotted a solo Black Bear near Tower Junction. We drove to Cooke City and got a room at the Alpine before heading back into the park. When we entered the park I asked the person at the gate if she was Greywolf and sure enough she was. So after brief introductions, we said we would meet up again at Ballpark Franks hike on Saturday.

JJ had never been to Trout Lake so we decided to make the short hike up to the lake. After the afternoon thunderstorms the trail was a muddy quagmire. It was a real challenge to get to the top of the hill where the lake is because everything was so slippery, but we did eventually make it to the top. There were 6 or 7 fishermen at the lake and they all seemed to be having a lot of success.

We walked about way around the lake before we took a game trail over a hill. We were able to overlook the Soda Butte Cone area. It was cool to see the area from above. To avoid the mud we decided to take the game trail as far around the lake as we could back towards the car. Along the way we saw numerous shooting stars, which is by far my favorite flower in Yellowstone.
